Short-term rest is a reasonable first response to a new, mild ache. The question is how long to give it before seeking an opinion.
Waiting is reasonable when
- the problem is new and mild
- it is already improving day by day
- you can still do most of your normal activities
An assessment is worth arranging when
- there is no clear improvement over a couple of weeks
- the same problem keeps returning
- it is limiting work, sleep or activity
- you are unsure what is safe to do
