The knee sits between the hip and the ankle and is influenced by both. That is one reason knee pain is not always a knee problem in isolation.
What an assessment looks at
A physiotherapy assessment of the knee usually considers:
- when the pain started and what you were doing
- which activities reproduce or ease it
- knee range of movement and joint behaviour
- strength around the hip, thigh and calf
- how you walk, squat and climb stairs
Why the plan differs between people
Two people with pain in the same spot may need different programmes, because the contributing factors differ. This is why treatment is planned after an assessment rather than prescribed from a symptom alone.
